Geist
science fiction, unpublished
2085. Everyone’s mind is online in a global network called the Net. People share thoughts and memories, have instant access to all human knowledge, and can live in virtual worlds of their own design. The Net has spawned Geist - an artificial superintelligence which runs on interconnected human minds and has ushered in a technological golden age.
That is until a cabal of fundamentalists led by ‘the Cardinal’ releases a deadly virus which spreads from mind to mind, killing all who refuse to disconnect from the Net.
Thalia is a former ‘mindjacker’, who used to spend her days spinning virtual fantasies for her customers. Shay is an AI designer fallen on hard times. Cho is the world’s leading scientist - a ‘dyad’ - twins whose minds have been fused.
These three are all that stands between humanity and destruction.
